Wordsift: Text Information

Wordsift is a very useful tool for teachers and learners to instantly capture and display the vocabulary structure of texts, and to help create and opportunity to talk and explore the richness and wonders of language.

How To Use It?

1. Pick on any article. Then 'COPY' the whole text.

2. Then 'PASTE' it into the box provided.

3. After you done, next click 'SIFT'

4. The word appeared on the screen are the words which are repetitively used in the text. The bigger the word, the more it is used in the text.

How can teachers use it in teaching?

Wordsift can be beneficial for teachers who would like to pick on a text to be given to the students. Teachers can use this tool to filter the words that repeatedly use in the text.
It may benefit students as well, where the students can use this tool to roughly understand what the text is all about.  This tool is very useful for pre-reading activities in a lesson.

Advantages

1. It is free.
2. It helps students to save time on reading.
3. Helps teachers/students to activate background knowledge about the whole text, especially the long one.
.

Disadvantages

1. It looks a bit dull and boring.
2. Students might not read the whole text and use this tool to assume about the content of the text instead of reading it.
